Dirty electricity raising your electric bill?

When I first became interested in the health effects of electrical pollution, power quality expert Dave Stetzer did an independent test of our electrical power quality, and we found that our utility was delivering electricity containing 11,000% more electrical pollution than is allowable by state code. When I discussed this with our next-door neighbors, we learned that they had been receiving absurd electric bills, for way more electricity than they could possibly be using in their home, but the utility company was insisting that they pay the bills. Both they and we were complaining vehemently to the utility company.

Suddenly, the level of electrical pollution in our neighborhood went down to just about half of what it had been. We will never know for sure why. However, at that very time our neighbors' electric bells became normal. Dave Stetzer explained that high frequencies make disc type electric meters spin faster, making it appear that more electricity has been used than actually has.

The August 1999 special issue of the Wisconsin Agriculturist was devoted to the issue of electrical pollution, and included some information about this issue of meters being affected:

If there's harmonic distortion on your farm and you have a disk-type electric meter, you may be paying more for your trouble than you think - literally.

In 1996, John Beyerl, Colby, "isolated" his farm from the utility lines, an option selected by many farmers dealing with "stray voltage.'" The procedure can be effective if "dirty'" current is entering the farm from utility neutrals, but not if it's entering via the earth. [Which the utilities are now using to return 70+% of the current to their substations.]

In Beryl's case, it didn't work, but his electric bill declined by nearly two-thirds. ...."It's simple. It's harmonics," Dave Stetzer told Beryl - the higher the frequency, the faster the meter turns, unless it's a digital meter.

August Hegg, Jr., Unity, who has "stray voltage" problems on his farm, says his monthly electric bill decreased by $400 to $500 when NSP installed a digital meter.

Now Dave Stetzer and Magda Havas have written an article, "High electricity costs and cell phone antennas: Is there a connection?" in which they discuss the effect of nearby cell towers/antennas on resident's electric bills.

Larry and Susan Stankaviches of Duanesburg, NY began to experience ill health after a cell phone tower was erected in their neighborhood in the late 1990s. Radio frequency radiation in their home fluctuates and relates to poor health, severe headaches and elevated blood sugar levels for Susan, who has type 2 diabetes, and sleep difficulties for both Susan and Larry. There are now three cell phone antennae within1700 feet of their home, which is on a hill in direct line with the antennae. Shortly after the most recent cell phone antennas were activated the Stankavichs noticed their electricity bills were higher than normal.

In 2002 and 2003 the annual electricity expenses were similar, around $1,400. In 2004 the annual electricity bill increased by $1,000 to $2,400 (70% increase). No major changes in electricity use during 2004 could explain this increase. The increase in their December 2004 electricity coincided with the installation of another set of cell phone antennas within 600 meters of their home. The monthly bills remained high until April 2005, when Larry Stankavich installed high frequency filters.

The most likely explanation is that the meter read inaccurately due to the high frequencies put on the line from the equipment at the base of the cell towers and not due to the broadcast signals.

With the many cell phone antennas that are dotting the landscape, the degree to which they interfere with hour-watt meters and contribute to inaccurate readings and high electricity costs needs further examination. If this is indeed a wide-spread phenomena we recommend the following actions be taken:
1. The Cell Phone Provider needs to filter their equipment to minimize radio frequencies on
electrical wires.
2. The Electricity Provider needs to ensure that their meters are measuring electricity use
accurately.
3. The Electricity Consumer needs to be compensated for any errors in the amount of electricity they have been billed for but not used.

NOTE: The local electricity provider replaced the new radio frequency (RF) Hr-W meter that could be read remotely from the road with the original mechanical Hr-W meter that recorded monthly electricity use.
Many electrically-sensitive individuals experience severe symptoms when one of these RF-producing "smart" meters is attached to their home by a utility company, and have requested that the new meter be removed and replaced with the original mechanical one, upon which the new symptoms disappear.

Dirty electricity common in schools

The LaCross Tribune has begun a series of articles on dirty electricity. Below is an excerpt from the first article.

Researcher: Dirty electricity common in schools

Some teachers and parents are convinced that dirty electricity could be the
reason their schools have sick building syndrome.

Schools are tested for asbestos and other chemicals when a group of teachers
or students get sick, but they are rarely tested for dirty electricity.

Magda Havas, a professor in environmental and resource studies at Canada¹s
Trent University, said dirty electricity is a power quality problem that
likely is present in most schools due to fluorescent lights, computers and
other electronic equipment that generate electrical pollution.

Havas was asked to conduct a study in a Toronto private school for students
with learning disabilities and found high levels of dirty electricity.

³I was unaware of studies showing dirty electricity was harmful to human
health, and I was skeptical that filters would do anything,² Havas said.
³But after filtering the school, the health of teachers and students
improved to my surprise. Student behavior improved especially in those with
attention deficit disorder.²

.... ³I am convinced that dirty electricity is contributing to the ill health of
staff and students,² Havas said. ³Elementary-aged students are the most
sensitive, and that this form of pollution may be significantly compromising
the learning and working environment in schools.²

As the article quotes comments made by the principal of the Bangor school regarding the results of filtering that are quite atypical, I contacted Dr. Havas and requested her comment. She has responded:

"Yes, Dave Stetzer and I visited Bangor school and spoke with the
Principal and some of the teachers who were electrically sensitive. I
offered to do a study at the school and I was told they were quite
receptive to the idea but needed to take it to their Board for
approval. We had a time limit for the study since I had teaching in
the fall and much less flexible time to travel to Wisconsin. They
delayed for a considerable period and the next thing I heard is that
they had already installed the filters in the school.

No one ever contacted me about any of this and I just assumed they didn't want to
do the study. I was then told, during an interview on the radio, that
I had offered but refused to do a study at Bangor school. This is
totally absurd. On the radio I mentioned to the person, that I was
disappointed when I learned they had installed the filters but that I
would still be willing to do the study but he said he had no
authority. I have not been contacted by anyone at Bangor school about
any of this. That is my recollection of the incident."

Dr. Havas' response to Health Canada "test"

I've been unable to post to the blog for some time because of technical problems, which have just been solved. So, here we go again.

Dr. Magda Havas of the Dept. of Environmental & Resource Studies at Trent University, Ontario, has done some great studies regarding the health improvement people experience when Graham Stetzer filters are used to remove the electrical pollution from their living environment. (This one, for example.)

Earlier this year, Dr. Havas was a guest on a number of Canadian TV and radio programs, which resulted in increased public awareness of the electrical pollution issue, as well as interest in the filters.

Very likely as a result of this, Health Canada did some so-called tests of the filters, and wrote up a so-called "report". This is such a poor piece of work that I can only say it is wonderful that Health Canada and their electrical-industry friends find themselves so threatened by a bit of public awareness that they have to resort to such absurdity.

I will be posting several pieces about this. Below, for starters, is Dr. Havas' letter to Health Canada, minus a chart that I am unable to reproduce.

Response to: Evaluation of the Stetzer Filters1

I raise a serious concern about a document1 written by six scientists at Health Canadas Consumer and Clinical Protection Bureau that was recently posted on the BC Centre for Disease Control2 web site. The Health Canada scientists purport to test the effectiveness of the Graham/Stetzer filters to reduce dirty electricity. This document does not appear on the Health Canada web site and has not been published in a peer-reviewed journal. Had it been peer reviewed it would not have been accepted for the obvious errors I mention below. This document is more concerned in protecting the electric utility than it is in protecting the health of Canadians. It surprises me that Health Canada would approve release of this document with so many fundamental errors.

It is my understanding that this document has been circulated widely yet the Health Canada authors did not have the courtesy to send a copy of their report to the designers of this filter, Professor Martin Graham (UC Berkeley) and Mr. Dave Stetzer (President of Stetzer Electric).
I ask you to look into this matter. Dave Stetzer has agreed to demonstrate how the filters work using appropriate equipment and I ask you to encourage your scientists at Health Canada to take him up on his offer.

What follows is my evaluation of and response to the Health Canada document 1.

Many products are now available to help people who suffer from exposure to electromagnetic energy and it is right for Health Canada to take these claims seriously and to test the products to see if they do indeed accomplish what they claim. Obviously this is what Health Canada had in mind when they decided to test the GS filters. I applaud them for this but am deeply disturbed by some of the fundamental errors they made during the testing of these filters and in the flawed document they produced.

Health Canada used equipment that neither had the appropriate range of frequencies nor had the needed sensitivity to test the GS filters? Health Canada inappropriately applied equations intended for linear loads to non-linear loads? Health Canada claimed that the GS filters produce dirty electricity that may be harmful to human health when they previously denied any harmful effects of dirty electricity? Health Canada seems more concerned about the impact these filters might have on the electricity providers rather than the impact dirty electricity might have on the health of Canadians, as their name implies?

This open letter is intended to set the record straight and to offer Health Canada a demonstration of what the GS filters do using appropriate equipment. I will deal with some of the more blatant errors in the Health Canada document and try to keep it as concise and non-technical as possible so that others will see what Health Canada has done or failed to do.
I understand that Dr. Don Hillman (Michigan State University) responded earlier this year to statements made in this document concerning biological effects of dirty electricity and that Dr. Martin Graham (UC Berkeley) plans to respond to the electrical engineering aspects based on the Health Canada study design and execution.

1. The GS filters remove dirty electricity within the frequency range of 4 to 100 kHz (4,000 and 100,000 cycles per second) and their ability to reduce microsurges above and below this range falls off rapidly. This was clearly stated in the Havas and Stetzer (2004) document cited by Health Canada.

So why did Health Canada use equipment that covered the range of 50 Hz to 5 kHz? There was an overlap of 1 kHz and this tested 1% of the effective frequency range of the filters. Clearly inappropriate instrumentation was used and hence Health Canada can make no claims as to whether or not the filters work because they were unable to test the filters properly. This alone makes the entire document worthless as a test of the effectiveness of the GS filters to reduce dirty electricity in the 4 to 100 kHz frequency range (Figure 1).

2. The dirty electricity rides on top of the 60 Hz sine wave yet Health Canada made no attempt to separate the 60 Hz cycle from the high frequencies. They could have used a ubiquitous filter and thus had more accuracy for the higher frequencies for at least 1 kHz of the overlap between the instrumentation and the filters effective range.

Health Canada admits their equipment did not have the appropriate sensitivity because, when the GS filter was plugged in, the microsurge meter measured reductions in dirty electricity that their equipment failed to detect.

3. Health Canada states that the filters have no effect at low frequencies in reducing harmonics. They provide evidence of this up to the 7th harmonic or 420 Hz. No one ever claimed the GS filters worked at these low frequencies. They work for the frequency range of 4,000 to 100,000 Hz and 420 Hz is not within that range. This is a red herring meant to discredit the filters by stating they dont work but for a frequency range they were not intended for. This lower frequency has less energy and is less likely to be as biologically active as higher frequencies (Riley 1998). See Item 5 below.

4. Health Canada erroneously claims that low levels of dirty electricity have no biological effects, but they provide no documentation to support their claim.
Studies show that people who have multiple sclerosis, type 1 and type 2 diabetics, chronic fatigue, tinnitus, and symptoms of electromagnetic hypersensitivity have benefited when the filters were used to clean up their home or work environment (Havas and Stetzer 2004). We have empirical evidence that these filters work both in the sense of reducing dirty electricity and improving health.

Diabetics had lower fasting glucose levels and required less insulin. Our studies with diabetics were independently replicated in Japan with similar results. According to Health Canada an estimated two million Canadians have diabetes and the cost of diabetes in Canada is estimated to be up to $9 billion annually. If even a small percentage of these diabetics could benefit by cleaning up the dirty electricity in their home/work/school environment, the savings in health care could be considerable.

Multiple sclerosis patients had reduced tremors and some were able to walk unassisted within a few days to weeks after filters were installed in their homes. No other changes were made in their diet or medication during this period to account for these changes. We have video-documented evidence of these improvements. How does Health Canada explain this and what evidence do they have to the contrary to support the claims that dirty electricity is not biological active?

According to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada (2002) Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world. An estimated 50,000 Canadians have MS and 70% of people with MS are unable to work 5-10 years after they are diagnosed. A number of people with MS who have used the GS Filters were able to continue work or return to work after they reduced the dirty electricity in their home/work environment. Their improved quality of life, the reduced stress on family members, and their ability to remain productive members of society should be of enormous interest to Health Canada.

5. Health Canada claims that the GS filters produce dirty electricity at the low frequency range and that this dirty electricity may be harmful. How can they argue it both ways? At first they claim that the levels of dirty electricity are so low that they are not biologically active and then they claim that the filters produce low levels of dirty electricity that are harmful to health.

Energy is related to frequency and the higher the frequency the greater the energy. Sixty kHz (60,000 Hz) has 1000 times more energy than 60 Hz. Also, frequencies above 1.7 kHz begin to penetrate the body (Riley 1998). Yet Health Canada claims that the lower frequencies, purportedly generated by the GS filters, have a greater biological effect with less energy and less penetrating power. This is contrary to logic. Dr. Don Hillman addresses this in greater detail in his letter to Health Canada sent earlier this year (2006).

6. Health Canada claims that the filters would increase our demand for electricity requiring more transmission facilities. The electricity provider will have additional transmission losses due to the continuous nature of this load in their distribution lines and transformers. However, if manufacturers of electronic equipment properly filtered their equipment and if the utility distributed clean electricity these filters would not be necessary.

Poor Power Quality

Dirty electricity is a serious utility concern. It costs industry in the United States between 4 and 6 billion dollars each year for dirty power (Fortune, June 5, 1999) and this does not include the health costs.

Industry has long recognized this and they use large capacitors (filters) because they require clean electricity for proper functioning of their equipment. Power surges are costly if they stop production and damage equipment. Surge suppressors are used in homes and offices to protect computers and other sensitive equipment for the same reason.

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) has long recognized the problems associated with spurious radio frequencies (RF) and the electric utilities have filters to mitigate this problem, although they tend not to use them as often as they should (see Ontario Hydros own document, Power Quality Reference Guide (1998).

According to the IEEE 519-1992, Since most electronic equipment is located at a low voltage level of is associated power distribution system, it is frequently exposed to the effects of voltage notching. Voltage notches frequently introduce frequencies, both harmonic and nonharmonic, that are much higher than normally exhibited in 5 kV and higher voltage distribution systems. These frequencies can be in the radio frequency (RF) range, and as such, can introduce harmful effects associated with spurious RF (page 39).

Poor power quality is a serious problem and both industry and the utilities have filters to improve power quality. Now a filter that plugs into an outlet and doesnt require an electrician has been designed for the home. The GS filter is a smaller version of the capacitors used by industry. The GS filter protects equipment from power surges and research shows that it helps people who are sensitive to this form of energy (Havas and Stetzer 2004). Surely the novel information here is not that a filter can reduce dirty electricity but that dirty electricity affects health. Isnt this what Health Canada should be testing?

Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity

People, who are genuinely suffering from what they describe as electrical hypersensitivity (EHS)3, contact me from all over North America. We have been able to help a few of those individuals who have participated in studies. Countless others have also benefited from the filters. They cant all be wrong. I encourage Health Canada to test the health claims we make in our studies because that is what is of primary importance.

3 The World Health Organization (2004) describes electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) as: . . . a phenomenon where individuals experience adverse health effects while using or being in the vicinity of devices emanating electric, magnetic, or electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Whatever its cause, EHS is a real and sometimes a debilitating problem for the affected persons . . .

Estimates show that 3% of the population has electrical hypersensitivity (EHS) and that an addition 35% have symptoms of EHS (Philips and Philips 2006). That range accounts for between 980,000 and 11 million Canadians who may be adversely affected by electromagnetic pollution in its various forms. So this is potentially a very serious health concern in Canada.

Dirty electricity is ubiquitous and getting worse because of the electronic equipment we use and because of the inadequacy of some of our power lines. Eventually the utility will have to deal with this pollutant and we hope it will be sooner rather than later so that fewer lives will be destroyed because of the insensitivity of the industry and their failure to adhere to their own guidelines.

Health Canada should take a more proactive role in dealing with electromagnetic pollution and electrical hypersensitivity by informing doctors about the symptoms of EHS, testing the products that claim to work, establishing monitoring programs for electromagnetic pollution in schools and elsewhere, and providing Canadians with solutions through legislation to ensure that our environment is as clean, safe, and healthy as possible.

An offer to demonstrate how the filters work

Dave Stetzer, one of the co-inventors of the GS filter, would be willing to demonstrate to Health Canada how the filters work using the appropriate equipment. He makes this offer because it is important for Health Canada to be aware of the seriousness of this problem and to understand how the filters work, especially if they later decide to do some studies with human subjects.

I look foreword to a favorable response to Dave Stetzers offer because I assume that we are
interested in the same thing--the health of Canadians.

Electrohypersensitivity conference avail. on DVD

A unique conference was recently held in Stockholm in May, 2006.

The theme for the conference was "The right for persons with the impairment
electrohypersensitivity to live in a fully accessible society". The
conference was organized by the Stockholm City municipality and the
Stockholm County Council and dealt with the most recent measures to make
Stockholm fully accessible for persons with the impairment
electrohypersensitivity. Among such measures are to offer home equipment
adjustments, ban mobile phones from certain underground cars as well as
certain public bus seats, and through electrosanitized hospital wards.

The conference was documented on film. It has now been translated into
English and made available on a double-DVD. It is sold and distributed by
the Stockholm City. The prize (incl. postage) is 25 euro. An invoice will

Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University has done several excellent studies regarding the health effects of dirty electricity (high frequencies accompanying the 60 Hz. from your electric utility company).

She has written an account of her first experience with the filters. She was skeptical, but open-minded. The results surprised her and launched her into ongoing research.

Blood Glucose & Dirty Electricity studies

On July 1st I posted news about a New Japanese study that looks at how a diabetic subject's blood glucose is affected by the installation/removal of Graham/Stetzer filters, which remove bioactive high frequencies from building electrical circuits. Find below more information about the connection between EMF/electrical pollution and blood glucose.

Excerpt from Dirty Electricity & Electrical Hypersensitivity: Five Case Studies(as presented at the World Health Organization, 2004):

Graham/Stetzer filters were installed in the home of an 80-year old female with diabetes on
June 12, 2004. Her home had very high values for dirty electricity (800 GS units on average with values above 2000 in some rooms) and these dropped significantly to no greater than 15 GS units (Table 1). Because she was diabetic and taking insulin, she regularly monitored her blood sugar levels.

Before the filters were installed this subjects fasting plasma glucose
(FPG) levels taken at 7 am each morning before breakfast ranged from 152 to 209 with a
average of 171 mg/dL (9.4 mmoles/L) (Figure 6). According to the America Diabetes
Association a person with a fasting blood glucose level of 126 mg/dL or higher is considered to be diabetic. A fasting blood glucose level between 100 and 125 mg/dL signals prediabetes.

The day after filters were installed in her home, this subjects fasting plasma glucose was 87 mg/dL (well below the diabetic range) and she did not take her morning insulin (Figure 6).
During the first week her FPG ranged from 87 to 168 and averaged 119 mg/dL (6.5
mmoles/L). Her average daily insulin intake (Humlin 70/30) decreased from 36 to 9 units
within the first week. The filters had no effect on her plasma glucose measured at 5 pm.

On
days that this subject visited shopping malls and casinos, places that are likely to have poor power quality, her evening plasma glucose levels increased significantly (above 250 mg/dL or 14 mmoles/L) ....

In addition to Case #4, we have worked with individuals who have both type 1 and type 2
diabetes and those who are pre-diabetic and have found that blood sugar levels can change rapidly (within a matter of 20 minutes or so for some individuals) as they move from an environment that is electrically dirty to one that is electrically clean (and back again).

"....Blood plasma glucose of diabetics increased as measures of electricity (millivolts and microsurges) increased in the environment of patients diagnosed with diabetes. Fasting glucose increased from 100 mg/DL to 160 mg/DL as electricity in the environment increased from 0 to 60 millivolts (mV)."

"....reducing electrical pollution (high frequency electrical noise) by use of microsurge filters plugged into [Refers to Stetzer filters.] wall outlets resulted in blood glucose decreasing within minutes. Fasting blood sugar decreased from average 171 to 119 mg/DL."

We stimulated RIN-m cells to secrete insulin under exposure to an ELFMF, using our established system for the exposure of cultured cells to an ELFMF at 5 mT and 60 Hz, or under sham exposure conditions for 1 h and observed the effects. In the presence of a depolarizing concentration of potassium (45 mM KCl), exposure to ELFMF significantly attenuated insulin release from RIN-m cells, compared to sham exposed cells. Treatment with nifedipine reduced the difference in insulin secretion between cells exposed to an ELFMF and sham exposed cells. The expression of mRNA encoding synaptosomal associated protein of 25 kDa (SNAP-25) and synaptotagmin 1, which play a role in exocytosis in hormone secretion and influx of calcium ions, decreased with exposure to an ELFMF in the presence of 45 mM KCl. These results suggest that exposure to ELFMF attenuates insulin secretion from RIN-m cells by affecting calcium influx through calcium channels. A short study done on Dave Stetzer, (Scroll down to study title: Blood Glucose Levels: A Study of Correlation Factors.) showed that his blood glucose is consistently elevated when he is exposed to "dirty" electricity.

It is common for people diagnosed as being diabetic to need less insulin after installing Graham Stetzer filters in their living space. Some no longer need insulin at all. One would hope that diabetes organizations would respond to this information enthusiastically, and support related research. This has not been the case, however.

Treating lifelong symptoms with drugs is much more profitable than finding and addressing the actual cause of symptoms.

The following editorial was printed in the Fitchburg Star newspaper on June 1st, 2006. As it is not available on the internet, the editor/author Kurt Gutknecht has okayed our sharing it here.

Why not monitoring?

Let the kabuki dance begin. One of the three routes proposed by American Transmission Company comes through Fitchburg. Its time for affected communities to claim that the line should go through another community.

This serves ATCs interests because it diverts attention from the real issue, which is why we have ceded control of our electrical infrastructure to firms that reap enormous profits no matter what route is selected.

With a guaranteed profit and millions to spend, ATC can slather money in every direction. Its surprising how effective this is.

Jane Anne Morris is absolutely right. Focusing on the regulatory process is a diversion. It will be NIMBYism writ large, albeit with enough breathless media attention and trappings of substance to make it seem as if real choices have been made.

Its a toothless farce. It will enrich lawyers and experts.

Meanwhile, everyone continues to ignore the devastating consequences of our outdated system of distributing electricity.

Watching how farmers have tried for almost 30 years to call attention to this shoddy and dangerous system they repeatedly pleaded with anyone at the PSC, the university and state agencies for help, to no avail indicated that the political, regulatory and legislative process is so corrupt as to be worthless.

And its surprising how little people care when this happens to someone else. As a point of clarification, farmers are just like us, save that they saw how they became ill in synchrony with their cows, which are more susceptible than humans. Farmers your neighbors, human beings -- were asking (and often begging) for someone to protect their lives as well as their livelihoods, which happened to involve livestock. We dont have such sentinel species to illustrate the presence of electrical pollution.

The unusual ailments that affected cows have their counterparts in human health, if anyone bothered to investigate.

The conditions that made farm families sick are usually much worse in urban areas.

The lonely battle of these families makes me doubt the sincerity of those who are now supposedly so interested in protecting agriculture. If a group of yuppies made similar complaints, society would certainly pay attention, as it (reluctantly) has in attempting to find the causes of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, whose symptoms are remarkably similar to those associated with electrical sensitivity.

No wonder farmers think urbanites care mostly about guarding the scenery.

The premise that our government permits the slow electrocution of a significant portion of the population is too much for most people to accept, even in the Madison area where we quaff radical-lite with our coffee. Most people think, as I once did, that its a positively goofy idea.

The chattering classes of all stripes never bothered to find out what was happening in the hinterlands because the experts said it was nothing to worry about, that these were just farms with poor wiring and some people with cockamamie theories.

It took me a long, long time to learn and accept what was really occurring. Of course, I had the luxury of working with researchers with impeccable credentials, including a few PhDs. They also used equipment that was often more sophisticated and accurate than that employed by the utilities and researchers.

I think Ive heard every argument the utilities and their cronies use to justify the dumping of electricity into the environment. Electricity, in all its various forms, is a pollutant just like toxic chemicals. The difference is that no one measures it. And if you do, there are all sorts of people go to extraordinary lengths to tell you it really doesnt mean anything.

The UW provides convenient justification for this state of affairs, based in large part on a researcher who has found that exposing cows to electricity for a few seconds over a few days doesnt kill them or make them sick. (Even those results are questionable.)

This research is the scientific foundation for the continuation of the practice. I kid you not. Meanwhile, electricity dumped in the environment courses through our bodies day after day, year after year odorless and invisible and usually at such an extremely low voltage that we dont notice until its too late. Most of us never figure it out.

All sorts of experts will tell you not to worry, in language thats usually indecipherable.

The truth is actually pretty simple to determine.

Let Fitchburg residents continuously monitor these electrical phenomena, using the same instruments used by the utilities. There are practical and inexpensive methods of doing so. Let people decide for themselves whether they want a high-voltage transmission line bringing in even more electrical pollution.

Of course, no utility, university researcher or government employee will monitor this for you. If they did, it would be foolish to trust the results, given their track record. And they will advance all sorts of reasons why you shouldnt, which boil down to the premise that these are harmless phenomena and that you arent smart enough to interpret what they mean. Their concern about your lack of intellectual acuity is positively touching.

Perhaps theyll suggest that you ask the state to provide more grant money for another worthless study at the UW.
Fortunately, this is still (nominally) a democracy and people have the right to interpret information for themselves.

The toll associated with electrical pollution saddens and sickens me. The treatment of those harmed by the utilities enrages me. The morality of those at the PSC, the university and the Division of Health who have kowtowed to the utilities disgusts me.

Its easier to forgive the politicians because they ultimately rely on others for impartial advice.

I know its not politically expedient to raise the issue of human health, but weve all seen the consequences of basing decisions solely on political expediency. Political expediency didnt help farmers. It wont help you when you need it.

The entire system ostensibly designed to protect our health and welfare is a farce when it concerns electrical pollution. Liberals, conservatives, radicals, environmentalists, libertarians, whatever. Theyre all afraid of tackling this issue. Most are on the utility dole, in one form or another. For decades theyve never actually talked to any families whose lives have been ruined.

I live here. I refuse to accept the dumping of even more electricity in the environment because it jeopardizes the health of my children and me. The high-voltage transmission lines will appreciably add to that burden.

The utilities adamantly oppose independent monitoring. Isnt anyone curious as to why? It would be an excellent way for them to show that my concerns are completely unwarranted.

New Japanese Study

Following is a translation of the report sent from Mr. Tatsuaki Sugimoto, President of Preventive Healthcare Japan Co., Ltd. to those who are currently promoting the use of GS filters in Japan. Mr. Sugimoto is a key member of the Society of Preventive & Alternative Medicine (US non-profit organization) and currently functions as one of the six councilors at the organization's Japan Office.

Note: the intention of the study discussed in this report is to verify numerous reports of studies previously done in the United States and Canada was not meant to replicate a scientific study.

To all supporters of GS [Graham-Stetzer] filters:

We have conducted a study at Natural Clinic Yoyogi in Tokyo today, with great support from the director Dr. Shirai, to check how a subject's blood sugar level changes when the EMF level is lowered by GS filters. The three subjects of the study were a 35-year-old male (Mr. I), a 60-year-old female (Ms. U) and a 48-year-old male (Mr. S). Mr. S. had been diagnosed as diabetic and was seeing a doctor. His fasting blood sugar level was over 300. He had been on medication, paying a lot of attention to his diet and also exercising, but he was having a hard time lowering his blood sugar level.

All three subjects finished their lunch at 12:10 PM. The first measurment of their blood sugar levels was taken at 3:30 PM. As it was more than 3 hours after the completion of their lunch, we consider these as fasting blood sugar levels. The measurement shows that the passing of time alone will not significantly lower blood sugar levels. The EMF level of the room where the study was conducted was over 2000 without GS filters and was not measurable. [A symptom-free level is about 20.] The blood sugar levels of the three subjects were 113 for Mr. I, 139 for Ms. U and 323 for Mr. S. Since average blood sugar level is between 60~110, we assumed the higher-than-usual readings of Mr. I and Ms. U, neither of whom had ever had any problems with high blood sugar levels, were due to the High EMF level of the room.

At 4:14 PM, thirty minutes after lowering the EMF level of the room using four GS filters to 30~35 GS units, we took another measurement. The readings were 100 (-13) for Mr. I, 110 (-29) for Ms. U and 290 (-33) for Mr. S. Numbers in parentheses show the changes in blood sugar levels. Since there were only two outlets in the room, we used two table taps to connect four GS filters and two meters. We have discovered that the amount of EMF lowered differs depending on where on the table taps GS filters are connected.

After another interval of 30 minutes, at 4:45 PM, we took a measurement of male subjects only. The readings were 93 (-20) for Mr. I and 274 (149) for Mr. S. Then, we disconnected all four GS filters and brought the EMF level back to over 2000. Thirty minutes later, at 5:15 PM, we took a measurement of Mr. S's blood sugar level. His reading did not go back up; it went down further, to 245 (-78). A surprised Mr. S said "My blood sugar level has not been this low lately even when I was taking clinic-prescribed medication".

The reason why the blood sugar level continued to lower after the filters were removed is because once cells start taking sugar in a normal fashion, the effect probably continues for a while. So, we can expect the GS filters to be effective even when installed only in a bedroom.

[Actually, the filters do not filter a room, but the high frequencies in the electrical current, which passes through the entire building. Four filters will not be sufficient in many situations, particularly in buildings with such a high level of electrical pollution. Unfortunately, the authors did not mention the pollution readings obtained in the test room by installing 4 filters, or the levels then found in other rooms. Perhaps they will do this in future experiments.]

We not only measured the blood sugar levels but also used special equipment called QRS to check waves. I will report on that part of the study next time.

GS filters may be effective for improving other medical conditions such as hyperlipidemia and hypercholesterlemia. We have seen the subject's blood consistency change from thick to more fluid blood.

We provided the four filters and a meter to Mr. S for free of charge so that he can continue measuring his blood sugar level while he has the filters installed at his residence. He is seeing his specialist on the 8th. After hearing the results of his visit, I am planning to talk to Mr. Kohzu, Director of The Society of Preventive & Alternative Medicine, Japan Office.

FREQUENCY, not field strength, the key.

Regarding situations like the one Don Maisch described, at the Queensland Post Office next to an electrical substation, a crucial element is overlooked in the readings that are taken.

The readings focus on the strength of the magnetic fields. However, the FREQUENCIES present in the fields are of prime importance. I am sure these would have revealed much more relevant information if they had been checked.

The Russians have long been aware that frequency causes stress and disease, including cancer. Most of us who are deeply concerned about the health effects of EMF/EMR know this, yet for some reason the main focus in research and activism remains on field strength.

Please see an oscilloscope image of the frequencies found in a classroom in a school where the present and previous teachers had gotten cancer, accompanied by the statement of Dr. Vitaly Reznik regarding the conditions caused by those frequencies.

In the Electrical Pollution section of this site, you will quite a bit of information about the improvement in various health conditions obtained when the damaging frequencies are removed from the living environment. Be sure to read one of Dr. Havas' relevant studies as well.

The Soviets and others have shown that frequency causes cancer and the many other conditions they list under the heading Radio Wave Sickness. It is not "magnetic field sickness." It is frequency-caused.

The harmful frequencies can be found in magnetic, as well as electric, fields, yes. However, removing the damaging frequencies results in health improvement even though field strength remains the same!

I am also speaking from personal experience when I say this. I suffered from painful and debilitating health symptoms, including extreme cardiac irregularities, that disappeared entirely after the offending frequencies were filtered from my home.

If the electric power companies in Queensland operate the way ones in the USA do, they are using the ground (terra firma) to return most of the current to the substations, and due to the "skin effect" high frequencies are subject to, that portion of the current returning via the ground is mostly high-frequency. Buildings near a substation, then, are in an area where the invisible rivers of high-frequency current are converging. As the Post Office is right next door to a substation, it would be very interesting to take ground current and frequency readings there.

A second look at the famous Wertheimer study examined the frequencies present, and found that it was frequency, not field strength, that correlated to the cancer cases.

When checking your personal environment, remember to focus on harmful frequencies, not field strengths. An ordinary gauss meter is useless for this purpose. HighSpeed Internet Router Dangers

   High-speed internet routers can either be hardwired (with physical wiring) or transmit wirelessly.   All wireless routers that power quality experts have tested produce health-damaging high-frequencies that actually exceed the highest level the testing equipment can register.

   In addition, it is possible for a hardwired router to have electrical malfunctions that result in severe electrical pollution, as was experienced by Kriss Brekke, whose story appears below.

   Research has amply shown the harmful health effects of exposing living bodies to radio and microwave frequencies.   There is no convenience worth your health or life.   If you want high-speed internet connection, use only wiring, not wireless, and check for possible frequency-producing malfunction with a Stetzer surge meter. Use Stetzerizer filters to reduce the broadcasting of harmful levels of electrical pollution from building wiring.

Electrical Pollution and Cancer: A Survivor's Story

In late January 2005, I was diagnosed with a high grade brain tumor
(anaplastic astrocytoma) that has an average survival time of 18
months. A biopsy and tissue test were done at UW Hospital in
Madison, and the pathology was confirmed by MD Anderson in Houston. I
had just turned 50, and had been exceptionally healthy until
experiencing a seizure on Halloween 2004. I also had tingling in my
left hand.

A friend of my mother told me about electrical pollutionand recommended that I study the topic at electricalpollution.com and stetzerelectric.com. She also lent me a microsurge meter from Stetzer Electric that reads changes in voltage as a function of time (dV/dt).A healthy level is under 50. Most of my outlets showed a solid "1",with but some were fluctuating around 1900. I called Stetzer Electric and learned that the meter only displays up to 1999, and shows a "1" for readings above that. [In other words, the electrical polllution level was above 2000, more than the meter could register.]

I immediately ordered 20
filters, but these were not enough to bring the problem under
control. On the advice of Dave Stetzer, I checked the electrical
panel, and found that the readings dropped when one circuit was
turned off. By unplugging electral devices on that circuit
one-by-one, I found that an AC/DC power supply for a network router
was causing the problem (this router had been continuously plugged in for about 4 years).

After the router was replaced, microsurge readings throughout our house dropped by 99%. The tingling in in my left hand went away immediately. The best news came last Thursday (June 16, 2005) when an MRI showed that my tumor had collapsed to a line that may be scar tissue.

   I cannot be certain that electrical pollution caused my tumor, or that
fixing the electrical problem influenced my recovery... Unfortunately, cancer patients... do not have time to wait for conclusive research .
They must act with incomplete information to reduce exposure to as
many risk factors as possible.   Checking homes and workplaces for
high levels of electromagnetic radiation is a good place to start.

   I believe that electrical pollution is a serious environmental hazard
that is rarely recognized by its victims. Without greater awareness,
health and lives will continue to be needlessly wasted. I am grateful
for life, and hope that this information will help others in their
battle with cancer.

A personal friend of mine was diagnosed with an advanced case of the most aggressive form of brain cancer, and asked for my help. He had been sleeping in a brass bed with extension cords against the frame, exposing him all night long to health-damaging frequencies. A large decorative brass tube ran just above his head, broadcasting the frequencies into his head. He had also been using a cell (microwave) phone on the side where the tumor originated.

We cleared his sleeping area of damaging frequencies. He also ditched the microwave phone and made some nutritional changes to increase his immunity. He passed through the conventional medical treatment and has defied the terrible odds of the tumor recurring.
